Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation hosted Hockey Day in Beardy’s this past weekend – a celebration to showcase the hockey community and the sporting talents. The event was a great success, said Councillor Tyrone Smallchild. The event started with a traditional pipe ceremony from their community elders and shortly after, their guests and hockey players arrived. Hockey icon Fred Sasakamoose, Carlin D Nordstrom, Jon Mirasty, D.J. King, and Curt Regnier attended and supported the event.
“These former pros offered tips and motivational words to the young hockey players and took pics and signed autographs,” said Smallchild. “FSIN Vice Chief David Pratt was in attendance to do the Ceremonial puck drop.”
Teams consisted of Native Great Hawks, Mixed Blood from north of Prince Albert, Meadow lake Stampeders Bantam.
