  • Brigette Lacquette was the first Indigenous player on Canada’s female Olympic hockey team, which won silver at the 2018 Olympics.

  • On June 4th, residential school survivor Eugene Arcand and Holocaust Survivor Nate Leipciger shared their stories with one another in front of over a thousand Saskatoon students to provide the audience with a deeper understanding of the challenges they faced.

  • Veterans honoured at the FNUniv powwow.

  • Fred Sasakamoose was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame this year, following on the heels of last year’s induction into the Order of Canada.

  • Bobby Cameron was re-elected Chief of the FSIN amid calls from some to reform the institution.

  • After 25 years of service, Sergeant Kevin Lerat retired from the Regina Police Service.

  • As Indigenous Relations Advisor for the rRemai mModern, Lyndon Linklater is responsible for ensuring Indigenous art, culture, and practices are incorporated. The gallery celebrated its first anniversary in 2018.

  • Mike Linklater was named one of our two 2018 Newsmakers of the Year.

  • A long-time educator was recently awarded the Indspire Guiding the Journey: Indigenous Educator Award for Community Service. Cort Dogniez, a Métis education consultant with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, received the award at the annual awards celebration held in Edmonton, Alberta on November 8th.

  • Graduate Shauntel Lemaigre was the winner of our 2018 Grad Photo Contest.

  • Jade Tootoosis was voted one of our 2018 Newsmakers of the Year.

  • As a paramedic, Shawna Arcand is used to taking care of others. This past year she also decided to take care of herself and become a healthier version of herself.
