A career fair that attracts over 1,200 Indigenous and non-Indigenous students is held annually at the Evraz Place where close to 80 career and educational booths are available.
Karen Lerat, an event coordinator thinks events like this are significant.
“It gets kids thinking about what they want to do after they leave high school,” said Lerat. “Or even if they are in university thinking about a career.”
Registered Nurse Renee Lerat, who was one of the role model speakers, said it’s a great opportunity for people to meet others and to see what kind of careers are out there.
“For the people out of the city there’s not enough opportunity for us to see the types of careers that are out there and the options we have as young people,” said Lerat.
This event kicks off the month of May.
