August 5, 1932 ~ January 1, 2025 (age 92)
Muriel McDonald of Pierceland passed away at the age of 92 at the Loon Lake Special Care Home with her brother, John, nearby.
Muriel was born in Dorval, Quebec and moved west to Beacon Hill with her family in 1939. Muriel was the youngest of four siblings; sister, Margaret, brother, John and twin sister, Rita. She attended school in Beacon Hill. While the rest of her siblings took jobs and worked out, Muriel stayed home and cared for her mother. She grew a big garden and enjoyed her horse. Muriel loved animals of all kinds, horses and dogs were her favourites. She was so pleased to still be living on her own at the age of 90.
She was a country music fan and loved to sing with Rita and play her guitar. “The Wabash Cannonball” was her favourite song and all the music groups coming into the care home sang it for her. She was artistic and enjoyed embroidery. Being outside soaking up nature was always a pleasure.
Muriel took driving lessons as an adult and never looked back; she loved to go shopping and took her mom with her.
The past two years were spent in the Loon Lake Care Home where she and John ate meals together, visited every day, went to activities and generally just hung out. She loved to feed Nico, the “facility” dog and kept treats in her room for him. He knew where she kept them and would beg for just one more, knowing she was an easy touch!
She was predeceased by her mother, and sisters, Margaret and Rita. She is survived by her brother, John; her nephew, Clifford; her dog, Rocky and the feral cat, Dolly Parton, who adopted Muriel after John moved into the Loon Lake Care Home. Both pets have been rehomed to Muriel’s satisfaction. She is remembered by close friends Gordon Blyan, Dawn Nault and Diane Watt and her family.
Muriel was a friendly and kind person who left an impact on those she met. She will be missed.
We would like to thank the staff at the Loon Lake Special Care Home for their kind and considerate care of Muriel.
In keeping with Muriel’s wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
