It’s never easy to sum up the life of such an amazing person, especially when there’s so much that can be said.
Dexter was a man with many traits who wore many hats throughout his life; star athlete in baseball – being a power hitter that could knock home runs out of the park like nothing; a devoted band Councillor and Educational Assistant for many years; a loving & dedicated family man; a warrior filled with strength and courage beyond belief; win or lose, the biggest and most loyal Edmonton Oilers fan anyone will ever come across; but above everything, something that has always stuck out the most… Dexter was humorous and everyone who knew him can agree to this and likely has a story or ten to share.
Dexter was a real family man that cherished any time he got to spend with family. He acknowledged every single member any chance he had and held his whole family in high regard, but the little family he created with his beautiful wife Lorriann was the absolute centre of his world. He loved his wife, sons and grandchildren so much and never hesitated to show it.
To say that he was strong is an understatement. Life was tough, but Dexter was tougher… a warrior in spirit who fought so selflessly with absolutely everything that he had to remain with us here on earth over the last few years. Despite the loss of his wife Lorriann and son Tristan, coupled with the many ailments he faced daily, he never complained but remained optimistic and faced each day so courageously with his final messages being “don’t worry, I love you.”
He enjoyed keeping in touch with his family and friends through social media; most specifically Facebook. You really just never knew what you were in for when you’d see his name show up in your notifications. With humour being his strong suit, chances are you were in for it, as he was the true definition of “status killer.” You could have the most heartfelt or serious post up and Dexter would still show up, either making fun of you or commenting nothing more than “ok.”
He was rarely serious and always had a joke or two waiting to pull on people. He could make any situation fun and any atmosphere lively and full of laughter without any effort. It’s just who he was and how everyone who knew him will always remember him.
We were so blessed to have Dexter in our lives for fifty-two years. His absence is heartbreaking and hugely felt but we take comfort in knowing that he is now safe and whole in the arms of Jesus, with no more pain and no more sorrow – reunited with his beautiful wife Lorriann, son Tristan and all other loved ones gone ahead.
