Contract employment opportunity – Cultural Advisor/Elder Services – Saskatoon Correctional Centre
The Saskatoon Correctional Centre is seeking an Elder/Advisor for a full-time contract of a maximum of 2080 hours/year over a five-year period. This position is set to begin in January 2025 for the successful candidate.
Advisor/Elder will attend to the cultural and spiritual needs of the offenders within the Centre.
Cultural Advisor/Elder selected will have a working knowledge and/or expertise in the delivery of the following areas: teaching traditional ceremonies including, but not limited to the sweat lodge and pipe ceremonies, understanding the cultural practices of First Nation and Metis people, provide individual counseling and sharing circles to offenders. You will act as a resource to the Cultural/Community Coordinator and Correctional Centre staff to increase understanding and sensitivity of the First Nation culture, traditions, spirituality, practices, and beliefs.
Cultural Advisor/Elder is contracted to provide services to a maximum of 40 hours per week at a rate of $33.00 per hour for a 5-year term.
Advisor/Elder must obtain a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) prior to being awarded this contract and obey all rules and regulations of the Correctional Centre while employed at the Centre.
