Saskatchewan Book Awards shortlist announced
- EFN Staff | February 12, 2016
The shortlist for the 2016 Saskatchewan Book Awards was announced today in Regina and Saskatoon.
The shortlist celebrates excellence in books from a wide range of genres and diverse cultural heritages. The awards are divided between writing awards and publishing awards that recognize both Saskatchewan authors and publishers. The categories include poetry, fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature, publishing in Education, and more.
“SBA received a total of 185 submissions this year, and we are very excited to present the shortlist, which showcases the incredible diversity of Saskatchewan’s literary community,” says SBA Executive Director Courtney Bates-Hardy. “We are proud to support Saskatchewan authors and publishers, and to encourage the recognition they so deserve.”
SBA was formed in 1993 and remains the only provincially-focused book awards program in Saskatchewan. It is a principal ambassador for the province’s literary community, with a nationally recognized reputation for celebrating artistic excellence. The 13 award categories offered this year are diverse, representative of Saskatchewan’s literary production, and responsive to emerging areas of interest. Award winners are determined through a selective jury process.
Award winners will be announced on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina. The ceremony will be hosted by award-winning author and comedian Dawn Dumont. Tickets for the Awards Ceremony are now on sale and can be purchased online through PayPal or by cheque. Get them at the early bird price of $50/ticket, $350/table of 8, or $450/table of 10 until April 1. After April 1, tickets will be $60 each, $420/table of 8, or $540/table of 10. Contact the Saskatchewan Book Awards at (306) 569-1585 or by email at info@bookawards.sk.ca.
