Redhawks new team name for Bedford Road

Bedford Road Collegiate has unveiled its new team name.
The name "Redhawks" was unveiled to more than 400 students and staff at the school's annual Colour Day celebration.
Redhawks is short for red-tailed hawks, a bird of prey commonly found in Saskatchewan.
The name came forward through the public Call for Ideas, which was one of the elements of the consultative design process. Since April, the school has held three design consultation sessions with students, staff, parents, and community members. Through these sessions and work within the school, students and participants put forward the values and ideals that represent Bedford Road. Those values formed the basis for the new team name and logo.
"Numerous ideas came forward through the design process. It became clear from the start that our school community wanted to keep the red colour when moving forward with a new name and logo," said Principal Cody Hanke. "Redhawks clearly resonated with our students and represents the values of our schools - pride, tradition, and respect. We hope our community will support our students as they proudly wear this new logo in the years to come."
In March, the Board of Education passed a motion to respectfully retire Redmen as the team name and logo for Bedford Road. Redhawks will be used as the new team name and logo beginning in September with the start of the new school year.
