Meewasin Trail expanding near Wanuskewin
- EFN Staff | June 12, 2014
Construction has begun on the north section of the Meewasin Trail leading to Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
This section will connect the Meewasin Trail in the northwest section of Saskatoon at 71st Street to Wanuskewin Heritage Park as a part of the Trans Canada Trail. The construction of this section of trail is a part of Meewasin's $8 million campaign to extend the Meewasin Trail from Wanuskewin Heritage Park to Chief Whitecap Park.
Completing a physical connection to Wanuskewin Heritage Park has long been a goal of Meewasin's. The Meewasin Trail acts as a physical reminder of our rich culture and history while offering current and future generations a place to enjoy and appreciate the environment along the South Saskatchewan River.
"This trail brings the City of Saskatoon one step closer to the cultural vibrancy that is Wanuskewin. The growth of our shared communities will benefit from this trail for years to come," said Candace Wasacase Lafferty, Board Chair for Wanuskewin.
Construction of this section is expected to be complete by the end of the 2014 summer.
