Measles Cases Confirmed, Public Advisory Expanded

Five cases of measles have been confirmed in the Regina area and southern Saskatchewan.
Earlier this week, the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region and the Ministry of Health announced they were investigating two suspect cases of measles in the region, and are tooks steps to notify members of the public who may have been exposed.
In addition to the previous locations, people who visited the following places during the dates and times listed below should be aware of the symptoms of measles:
- Superstore (Rochdale location - January 17 between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)
- Walmart (Rochdale location - January 17 between 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.)
- Uplands Pizza (475 Broad St. N. - January 17 between 11:45 a.m. and 3 p.m.)
- Co-operators Centre in Evraz Place (1700 Elphinstone St. - January 18 between 1:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.)
- Soma Salon and Spa (2336 9th Avenue N - January 20 between 3:15 and 6:30 p.m.)
- Hotel Saskatchewan Radisson Plaza (2125 Victoria Ave.- January 19 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)
- Chapters book store and attached Starbucks Coffee (South Albert location- January 13 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and January 22 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.)
Members of the public who visited the following establishments during the week of January 13 - 17 should also be aware of the symptoms of measles:
- Security Building Supplies (January 13 - 17 inclusive)
- Chapters book store and attached Starbucks Coffee (South Albert location - January 13 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)
- Sobeys (South Albert location - January 13 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)
- Lawson Aquatic Centre (Pool facility and common areas: January 14 between 12:30 and 5:30 p.m.)
- Safeway (13th Avenue location - January 14 between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.)
- Menchies Frozen Yogurt (Quance St. location - January 14 between 8 and 11 p.m.)
- Argyle Park Community Centre (January 14 between 6:30 and 9 p.m. and January 15 between 6:30 and 9 p.m.)
- Uplands Community Centre (January 14 between 6:30 and 9 p.m.)
Measles is a highly infectious and potentially serious disease that is easily transmitted through the air. Symptoms include high fever, cough and runny nose, followed by a rash. The rash often starts on the face before spreading to the rest of the body.
The earliest a person will experience symptoms is one following exposure. If you were born before 1970, you are assumed to be immune from contracting this disease.
If you develop the above symptoms, please call your primary health care provider's office, explain you were a contact of a suspect measles case, detail your symptoms, and see what accommodations can be put in place prior to your visit to minimize contact with other patients.
