LLRIB set to celebrate 125 years of Treaty
- EFN Staff | January 30, 2014
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of Treaty No. 6.
On February 11, LLRIB will honour and celebrate the Treaty that was signed on February 11, 1889 by Chief James Roberts at a site known as Molanosa, located just south of La Ronge on Montreal Lake.
"This historic commemoration is an opportunity to remind Canadians that we are all descendants of Treaties, which continue to define communities and our national identity," says LLRIB Chief Tammy Cook-Searson. "Together, we must continue to develop mutual understanding and acceptance while honouring the true spirit and intent of our unique Treaty relationship."
Everyone is invited to attend a ceremony and supper that will be held at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre on February 11 beginning at 3 p.m.
A larger celebration will be held during the annual Treaty Days in May.
