AFN sets election date for new chief
- EFN Staff | July 18, 2014
A date has been set for the next election of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief.
During the AFN's Annual General Assembly, delegates decided to hold a Special Chiefs Assembly in Winnipeg December 9 - 11, 2014 to elect the next National Chief.
Until then, AFN Quebec/Labrador Regional Chief Ghislain Picard will continue to act as Interim National Chief. He was appointed after Shawn Atleo resigned in May.
Delegates also paid special tribute to the families of missing and murdered Aboriginal women, making special note of Marlene Bird, who is recovering in a Saskatoon hospital following a horrific attack earlier this summer.
A blanket dance was held that raised more than $4,500 for her care and treatment.
