Aim 4 Health offers a friendly and supportive environment for First Nations and Metis people at risk of developing diabetes, or who already have diabetes and would like extra support in managing their own care.

Step 1

You need:

1 cup whole wheat flour

2 ½ cups white flour

1 cup oatmeal

3 tbsp baking powder

½ cup powdered skim milk

Here’s how:

Mix together whole wheat flour, white flour, oatmeal, baking powder and powdered skim milk.

Step 2

You need:

½ cup vegetable oil

Here’s how:

  • Slowly add vegetable oil to dry mixture.  Using clean hands, blend the oil with the dry ingredients until mixture looks crumbly.
  • Add water, stirring in gradually until evenly blended.  Dough should have a soft, moist consistency.
  • Knead and form dough into a rectangular shape and poke top with fork.  Be careful not to knead dough too much or it will become tough.
  • Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 375 F for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cut into square pieces and serve.
