It is with sadness the family of Tyrone Boyd Thunderchild-Hyman-Ochipwao, announce his passing on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 36 years.

Tyrone was born on July 3, 1990, to Elaine Louise Hyman and Daniel Glen Ermine. At just seven months old, he came into the loving home of Fred and Alvina Thunderchild, who raised him as their son. Fred and Alvina were Mom and Dad, and no matter where life took Tyrone or what trouble he found himself in, his first call was always home—sometimes to ask, “Pray for me,” and sometimes, “Can you send me money?” Through it all, he always knew where home was.

Tyrone was fearless from a young age and had a deep love for horses. Much of what he knew was taught to him by his brother Jamie, with whom he spent many hours working with horses. Tyrone helped break horses, rode bareback, and was a jockey at Marquis Downs in Saskatoon.

He also loved going on rodeo trails and riding horses with his Grandpa Steven. Tyrone was fearless when it came to rodeo—riding bulls and constantly challenging himself to see what he could ride. He rarely backed down from a challenge and loved the thrill and excitement that came with it.

Tyrone was also an amazing hockey player. Small but mighty on the ice, he had a natural talent for the game. Through hockey, rodeo, Indian Relay, and racing, Tyrone made many lifelong friends who became more than friends—they became his brothers.

Anyone who knew Tyrone knew when he was around. He had a loud presence, a big personality, and always made sure to say hello. He loved all of his siblings and always found a way to keep in touch. Whenever there was a new phone number—or another new Facebook account—Tyrone would find everyone again.

Tyrone leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Netalia and Mia; parents Fred and Alvina Thunderchild; siblings Melissa Thunderchild-Bergen (Christian), Katie Thunderchild, Rose Robles (Francisco), Jesse James Keenatch, Tracey Hyman, Jody Hyman, Jamie Ochipwao, and Danielle Ermine; uncle Richard Keenatch (Mary-Rose); along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, lifelong friends, and all those he considered brothers.

Tyrone was predeceased by his biological parents, Elaine Louise Hyman and Daniel Glen Ermine; his sisters, Chastity Littlespruce and Sunshine Ermine; and his grandparents, Steven Ochipwao & Cecile Keenatch, Joseph & Stella Mitusing, and Moise Cook & Rose Armstrong.

Tyrone’s journey was not always easy, but those struggles never defined who he was to the people who loved him. He was a son, a dad, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, and a friend. Above all, he was loved.

Tyrone’s Wake will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Chief James Okanee Memorial Centre, Thunderchild First Nation, Saskatchewan.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the at the Chief James Okanee Memorial Centre, Thunderchild First Nation, Saskatchewan.
