Plans to relocate the Gold Eagle Casino are being disputed by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA).

This week, Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation (MGBHLM) announced plans for a $100 million economic development project in North Battleford, including the relocation and expansion of the Gold Eagle Casino (GEC) to a 67-acre site along the city’s west entrance.

In a statement released by Friday states: “At this time SIGA has no plans to relocate the Gold Eagle Casino. Any future development plans regarding GEC will be communicated at the appropriate time.”

SIGA operates GEC in North Battleford and co-owns it with MGBHLM, on whose land the casino is located. GEC was the first casino to open under the SIGA umbrella in March 1996.

The statement from SIGA also reads: “As part of our continued commitment to operational excellence, SIGA regularly invests in its properties to enhance efficiency and service quality, in consultation with key stakeholders.”

“GEC remains a strong performer in the North Battleford market,” the statement continued.

At the announcement on Monday, MGBHLM Chief Tanya Stone said, “This project will generate opportunity income, and long-term community wealth.”

The $100 million investment is the largest in MGBHLM history, and the largest value land sale in North Battleford history.

Leaders from MGBHLM, Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs, FSIN, and city of North Battleford were present at the investment announcement.
