
2025 National Indigenous People’s Day Events
Brought to life in 1996, National Indigenous People’s Day recognizes the special contributions and rich culture of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people in Canada. The day is typically celebrated on June 21, aligning with Summer solstice, which is a deeply culturally significant and spiritual day for many Indigenous across the country. Eagle Feather News has compiled a rundown of some of the major events taking place around the province.
Wanuskewin Heritage Park – June 21, 9:30 AM-4:00 PM
Saskatoon
An admission-by-donation event celebrating Northern Plains Indigenous peoples through music, art, education, and hands-on activities. Highlights include: Dance and music performances, guided gallery tours, hide and beaver scraping demonstrations, native plant information station with Sandra Walker, traditional games, and an Indigenous artisan market.
City of Regina/Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Network (EDIN) – June 20, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Victoria Park
Regina
Grand Entry at 10:00AM followed by greetings and a series of performances on the stage at the west side of Victoria Park. In addition to performances, activities and an artisanal market suitable for all ages. Attendees can expect interactive and educational experiences, including stations like First Nation’s cultural teachings and a tipi demonstration. Kid’s Zone Activities include Inuit games, First Nations Pow Wow teachings, face painting and button making.
Regina Public Library – June 20, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Held at the Central Branch, there will be cultural performances by the Lone Creek Dance Troupe and Métis Jigging by Marcus Merasty.
Rock your Roots – Walk for Reconciliation – June 20, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Saskatoon
Starting at Victoria Park in Saskatoon, the walk honours Residential School Survivors and invites community to show up and demonstrate their commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Participants are encouraged to wear cultural regalia, carrying your nation’s flag, or wear orange. Walk ends at “Reconciliation Circle” in Victoria Park where there is a grand entry, program and activities hosted by Reconciliation Saskatoon, followed by programming and activities in the park.
Métis Nation – Saskatchewan – June 20, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Saskatoon
A free barbecue will take place in front of the MN–S office in Saskatoon on 20th Street East. The front street will be blocked to traffic as they celebrate with Métis music, food, and share government information on programs and services.
Saskatchewan Polytechnic – June 20, 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert
Sask Polytech will hold a free pancake breakfast on June 20 at three locations: Saskatoon campus – outside by cafeteria doors, Regina campus – Indigenous Students’ Centre and International Students’ Centre, Prince Albert campus – outside south patio of cafeteria.
Remai Modern – June 21 – 1:00 PM
Saskatoon
Remai Modern will screen the documentary Lii Michif Niiyanaan: We Are Métis. This screening is free and open to the public and will open with the short films “Hunger Moon” and “Plaansh a Roo”.
Royal Saskatchewan Museum – June 20, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Regina
The Kawacatoose Boys’ Singers and Dance Troupe will kick off the celebrations with an honour song. Other activities include: scavenger hunt, self-guided tour, beading and adornment station, bison hunting activity including atlatl throwing, and the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society will be on-site with the ArchaeoCaravan and a flint knapping demonstration.

BRT6HC’s annual free pancake breakfast and National Indigenous People’s Day event will include live entertainment, special guest speakers, vendors and more.

Hosted by Lii Bufloo Métis Local #35 at the Swift Current Museum, celebrations will feature an afternoon of children’s activities, traditional crafts, games, and more.
Buffalo Pound Provincial Park – June 21, 1:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Elmview Day Use Area
Celebrations kick off with Indigenous country music artist, Teagan Littlechief. Other events include: Bison educational session and paint by numbers, Indigenous games, Saskatchewan Archaeological Society: Hands on History, beaded Western Red Lily craft, and stories from a prairie hike.
City of Fort Saskatchewan – June 21, 11:00 AM-2:00 PM

Celebrations include Indigenous performances by traditional singers and dancers, interactive cultural booths and vendors, Healing Hands of Reconciliation – a project to reflect on the TRC Calls to Action by signing names and adding handprint to tipi canvas, and Witness Blanket Exhibition.
