
The people of the Athabasca constituency will choose their representative
Advance polls have begun at six locations in the Athabasca by-election. Voters have four candidates to choose, which includes, Clint Arnason for the Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan, Georgina Jolibois from the New Democratic Party (N.D.P.), Jim Lemaigre representing the Saskatchewan Party and Independent candidate Darin Roy.
According to Elections Saskatchewan, there are an estimated 10,373 eligible voters and 9,277 of them signed up by the close of registration on Feb. 4.
However unregistered can still vote by registering in-person when they arrive at a polling station to vote on Feb 15. To be eligible to vote you must be 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen and have lived in the province for at least 6 months. You will also be required to show ID to cast a ballot. You must show ID at the polls to vote.
cceptable forms of ID includes:
1. Driver’s Licence. A valid driver’s licence, or other government-issued ID, that has your name, photo and current address.
2. Two pieces of ID. Both must show your name and at least 1 shows your current address. There are 50+ options in the list below.
3. Another voter can vouch for you. No ID? An eligible voter (who knows you) and is assigned to the same voting location, may vouch for one voter.
All voting polls and station will have COVID-19 precautions in place to ensure safety.
“Voting safely remains our priority, as it was in the 2020 general election,” says Dr. Michael Boda, chief electoral officer of Saskatchewan in a news release. “Our pandemic protocols include all election workers wearing masks, and voters are required to do the same, either bringing their own mask or using a mask provided at the door. Physical distancing will be in place, as will clear dividers between workers and voters. Voting places will be cleaned throughout the day, and single-use pencils and sanitizer will be offered.”
The six advance voting locations are at: Beauval BDI Gymnasium, Green Lake Community ICSI Radio Station, Lajeunesse Ave, Ile-a-la-Crosse, La Loche Community Hall, 911 Clark Street, La Loche, Lakeview Complex and the Minahik Gas Bar (Lower Level),.

In the 2020 provincial general election, a total of 1,070 voters cast a ballot during the five days of advance voting in Athabasca. Combine this number with votes cast on election day, and a total of 3,046 ballots were counted in Athabasca in 2020.
The Return of the Writ will take place on Mar. 10.
