Fundraisers planned to help fire evacuees
- EFN Staff | July 03, 2015
A new Emergency Command Centre is now in full effect to provide services and logistical supports to the First Nations Communities and its members who have been evacuated to Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Regina. Given the situation facing over 4,000 evacuees, PAGC is seeking donations, such as diapers, blankets, deodorant, shampoo and summer clothing that can be dropped off at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial Centre in Prince Albert.
On Tuesday night, PAGC raised over $1,000 and three truckloads of clothing from a benefit held at the Somewhere Else Pub and Grill in Saskatoon.
A few more fundraisers are planned for this upcoming weekend: a Steak Nite fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 4 at the Sip Nightclub in Regina from 4-9pm, featuring music performance and a jam session; and, on Sunday, July 5, an outdoor concert will be held at Kinsmen Park with support from the City of Prince Albert. The outdoor event will take place from 2-10 pm with performances by Donny Parenteau, Marty Ballentyne, Black Eyed Creez, Kerri English, the Goats, Cars Collide, Leonard Adam and Sons, Carl Crane, Lauren Reid and many more. Donations will be accepted on site. Any musicians who would like to perform can contact Sheryl Kimbley at 306-941-7120.
Evacuees are invited to visit the PAGC website for information on registration, meal times and transportation times. The site will also include updates on PAGC-run family activities, as well as links to wildfire status reports, air quality updates and the highway hotline. The website is located at www.pagc.sk.ca.
