BHP and Carlton Trail College celebrating 10 years together assisting students

This year marks the 10th anniversary of BHP’s Jansen Project Scholarship Program.
BHP and Carlton Trail College say they look forward to continuing this partnership which provides scholarships for post-secondary education and training.
“We are proud to be involved in this program and are excited to celebrate our 10th year working with Carlton Trail College and supporting youth in the region,” said Simon Thomas, vice president potash, BHP in a press release. “We look forward to continuing to support our youth for years to come.”
The partnership provides scholarships to students from eligible schools located near Jansen Project’s site in east-central Saskatchewan. This includes, but not limited to: Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation; Englefeld; Fishing Lake First Nation; George Gordon First Nation; Humboldt; Imperial; Kawacatoose First Nation; Lanigan; Muskowekwan First Nation; Punnichy; Quill Lake; Raymore; Watrous; and Watson.
These scholarships are open to currently graduating high school students and recent graduates under the age of 30 who are attending a recognized post-secondary program for the first time.
Carlton Trail College administers the program for BHP.
“Students want to develop useful skills and gain knowledge that will help them develop meaningful careers,” said Deanna Gaetz, Carlton Trail College’s business and skills training director in the same press release.
“Since the start of the scholarship program, Carlton Trail College has been committed to supporting BHP’s vision of skilled, future workforce development within our region,” continued Gaetz.
In 2021, 30 scholarships, each with a value of $2,500, were presented to students from 11 eligible schools and six First Nations communities.
Since 2013, BHP has awarded $572,500 worth of scholarships to 222 recipients.
Recipients are determined based on academic standing, community involvement, letters of reference, financial need and insight into community and/or global matters.
