Many Aboriginal women honoured at YWCA Women of Distinction

A room full of inspirational leaders were celebrated Thursday night at a massive TCU Place awards gala, the PotashCorp YWCA Women of Distinction Awards.
Fifty-nine women were nominated by members of the public, recognition both for achievement and leadership in their respective spheres, and for their contributions to the larger community. 11 women were named as the final award recipients. There was an outstanding amount of First Nation and Métis nominees and many walked away with awards.
The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards are recognized nationally among the most prestigious awards for women. Now in their 34th year, the awards have celebrated the best in women’s achievements, with over 800 individuals nominated to the ranks of the Women of Distinction in our city.

Funds raised every year through the Women of Distinction Awards Dinner go directly to support the work of YWCA Saskatoon, to eliminate poverty homelessness and violence for women and their families. YWCA Saskatoon is dedicated to building a strong community, providing services to help women care for themselves and their children, and find housing and employment.
